Introduction
We organise gentle to hard-riding touring cycling. If you are not a member, you may ride with us a few times, but then we will expect that you join the CTC through our National Office. We have different riding groups who go out on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays. Each group has a different style, choose yours.
Regular Ride Groups
Group Organiser: Rob Ward “Tuesday Toasters” is a 20 to 25 mile ride from Wimborne Square to Blandford. We use quiet roads at the pace of the slowest riders, making it ideal for newcomers to group cycling. Coffee and toast in one of Blandford’s many cafes make the whole ride duration around 3 hours. Typically we arrive back at Wimborne around 12.30. Our experienced riders will encourage and assist ladies and gentlemen of all ages to develop their cycle touring abilities.
Hi everyone,
Now we have re-opened a couple of groups successfully I am re-starting the Toasters from Tuesday 20th April. This will be a Cycling UK organised sports ride, with a maximum of 15 riders, subject to the current conditions being met. Please read my email for that. If any of the conditions are not met, in particular the pre-booking, then it will require the group size to revert to six maximum, and if more than this number arrive at the start, separate groups departing 20 minutes apart. Takeaway coffee stop in the park by the Post Office
Group Organiser: Jim McDonald. Meet every Thursday at either at Hurn Village Stores, Wimborne Recreation Ground, Ferndown at junction of Wimborne Rd.East & West Moors Rd. or Merley Willett Arms Car Park, leaving at 9.30 am in summer(except at Hurn Village Stores, 9.45) and 10 am in winter after the clocks go back. Rides are at a modest pace but don’t really dawdle. Most members are in their sixties or seventies but all are welcome. The members share an interest in the countryside, coast, buildings and views. The ride stops at cafes for elevenses and tea but members always carry their own picnic lunch. Thanks to all those who steped up to lead rides we have a full programme visiting many favourite places leading up Christmas. Lets hope the weather will be kind to us and no further pandemic restrictions will arise.
NOTE TO ALL CYCLISTS: Now that current Covid19 restrictions are easing and with the advent of warmer weather rides can be extended to allow some new lunch stops. These also include a car assisted ride from Wilton along the beautiful Wylye Valley to Warminster on 8th July and a similar ride from Maiden Castle Car Park, Dorchester through the Frome and Cerne Valleys on 23rd September. Group Organiser: Cathy Cottenham The Thursday Riders are a sociable group offering moderately paced rides of approximately 40-60 miles, using minor roads to explore Dorset, the New Forest and surrounding countryside. RED is a change from originally published.
Group Organiser: The Rouleurs have currently no group organiser. If you’d like to take this group on, please contact the secretary by email link here.
Originally a harder-riding Thursday group offering full day rides of between 60 and 90 miles at an average speed of around 14-15 mph. The rides include stops for morning coffee, pub or sandwich lunch and optionally afternoon tea, depending on daylight hours. A good day out on the bike in a friendly, relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere! However, it can be whatever a new organiser wishes it to be!
Currently this group is not operating. Call back here from time to time for updates.
Christchurch to Burley and back
At a loose end? Fancy 50 and a bit miles through Dorset countryside?
BunRuns are aimed at bringing riders on as tourists, to improve their range (of buns).
BunRuns instill the confidence to embrace the prospect and rewards in tackling mounds (of cake).
BunRuns encourage improvers to enjoy their cycling wheresoever the road leads (tea & cake).
Co-ordinator Richard Spencer
Hello, I’m your new co-ordinator and runs leader unless otherwise stated.
I’m on WhatsApp and we use this for our weekly communications/chats.
I endeavour to ride as many Saturdays as I can. Our start points are fixed, but we can if we wished to, be flexible with our route/destination. New riders are always well looked after, we regroup after any splits in the group, and support each other with any punctures or mechanical failures.
The AVERAGE SPEED is 14 to 16 mph covering 55 to 70 miles, with the all important CAFE STOP at about midpoint. Please come and join our friendly group.
Group Organiser: Stephanie Cleaver. The “Inters” are a happy go lucky bunch of medium paced riders as the name suggests, who look forward to Sunday rides of 60-80 miles in the winter going up to 80+ during the summer. There are sociable stops for morning coffee, packed sandwich lunch or pub/cafe (if available) an afternoon cake stops. There is a fairly wide range of ages and abilities in the group. Occasional weekend trips are organised and there is a relaxed attitude should a break “go off the front.”

Group Organiser: Rob Ward A harder-riding Sunday group offering half day 50-70 mile rides to virtual coffee and back. The average speed for the rides is probably going to be reduced a bit after lockdown on the basis that not many of us will have a lot of miles in!
A good half day out on the bike in a friendly, relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere!
